Bay Cities Furnace & Air Conditioning can handle any HVAC job, from designing and installing forced air heating systems to simply switching out a unit filter. This family-owned business has been in non-stop operation since WWII. Give them a call—you’ll be impressed by this old-school, super-efficient and friendly operation.
Heating and air conditioning has changed a lot since 1945, and Neil Hammond should know—he inherited the business from his father and works side-by-side with his son, Greg, maintaining state-of-the-art service equipment. Meanwhile Cheryl runs the phones, maintaining old-fashioned customer service values.
Greg never met an HVAC challenge he didn’t relish, while both Neil and Cheryl agree that the best part of the job is taking care of their customers. The feeling at Bay Cities Furnace & Air Conditioning is nothing but warm in the winter and cool in the summer. You’ll want these folks keeping your home comfy too.
Tip: “Get a CO (Carbon Monoxide) tester and plug it in, especially if you have older equipment. We have some clients with furnaces that are fifty years old that could go at any time.” –Neil
On Sunday, November 6, 2011, our decrepit Holly furnace of 40 years, the original that was installed when the house was built, finally exhausted itself. That weekend had been unseasonably chilly and we waited anxiously for Monday to contact a repair person. However, Bay Cities that Monday was overwhelmed with customer calls for service and was unable to respond immediately, so I contacted a very large heating and air conditioning firm about which I knew virtually nothing. The service technician informed me that there was no hope for the old relic and that a new one was the only option. He proceeded to promote some very pricy products and droned on endlessly about adding a necessary 30 year warranty that his firm would service for an additional cost. The service technician left me feeling very uneasy. The next day, to my delight, Bay Cities contacted me, apologizing for being so busy and offered their services. Mr. Neil Hammond came to our house. There was something about his demeanor that commanded my immediate respect. He is quiet spoken and very “user friendly” as they say in the trade jargon. Mr. Hammond quietly went about measuring the dimensions of the furnace while fielding questions from me and explaining the nuances of today’s heating units. It did not take long for him to prepare his proposal. The price was a little less than that of the larger firm and even offered much more for the money in that it included a furnace with dual heating, programmable thermostat and seven new, improved vents and the city inspection fee (the inspection fee with the larger firm was a $300 add-on, for which the city charges $100 {the true cost} and for which Bay Cities charges nothing extra). Being a businessman by occupation, I had planned on getting the usual three estimates but Mr. Hammond had won my complete confidence in his simple, honest and factual presentation of his proposal. The furnace wasn’t immediately available but Mr. Hammond showed up on our doorstep with a space heater loaner to use until the new furnace was installed. The installation went like clockwork and the installers were especially friendly to work with. Mr. Hammond came by to follow up and to be sure there were no questions. You could not ask for a finer firm, a firm of three generations of Hammonds that have their customers’ needs as paramount to their business. If only all businesses were like this one.

I found this company thru neighbor2neighbor after interviewing at least 2 others. Bay Cities was terrific! I had quite a bit of remediation to be performed since the house was vacant for nearly a year. Greg and his team provided an accurate estimate, and were knowledgeable, prompt and very professional. I highly recommend them, especially if you have unique needs.

Greg at Bay Cities redid our heating and installed central air. He was fair, reasonable and reliable. Always on time! Bay Cities is family-owned and the crew has been with him for a number of years. I was impressed with that. Another thing I liked was that Greg was always around, on the job, making sure it was done right. We had a problem with the landscaping and he hung in with us until we got our approval. He really cares about our house.

Greg at Bay Cities installed our central heating unit and has been servicing it for us. Recently, we needed a new heat pump. The new unit is a lot more efficient and we expect to save on our utility bill this year because of it. They are always on time, easy to deal with and give quality workmanship. They gave us low-end and high-end choices about repairing our existing unit. We’re very happy with Bay Cities.

Bay Cities showed up on time, did their work and cleaned up after themselves. They made the whole process seem so easy. Neil came by frequently to check on the progress of the job. They installed a central heating unit and removed the old wall unit. When they gave us the estimate he brought information and paperwork for a state rebate and a federal tax credit that saved us two thousand dollars! Neil always called me back promptly. His availability and the trust I felt, made this project an outstanding experience!

Bay Cities is on top of the permit process. They installed a new heating and air system for me in August. It is efficient and I have a tremendously low gas bill! The air conditioning is phenomenal! Their estimate was comparable to others. I had a manufacturers and government rebate. I pretty much already knew what I wanted going in. Neil gave me some good advice that saved me money, instead of just agreeing with me. They have a smooth, accommodating office staff. Their style is very down to earth, no pressure, no force to follow their timetable. It’s all what the customer wants. Very user friendly!

One thing that happens here in Marina Del Ray is that service companies show up and shell out huge bids with no options or they just won’t come this far out at all. I called five different companies to replace my heater. Neil from Bay Cities is very professional. He showed up prepared to talk about what I wanted. He talked to me for twenty minutes just to get a sense of our needs. Then he gave us two or three options. There was no push for immediacy. He gave us time to think about our decision. He was very low-key, and then followed up with a phone call a week later. Bay Cities was a quality experience from the first minute to completion. Once we signed the contract, Neil took charge of the project. He did it all, including all permits, exceeding our expectations. Our house is old and the unit was dirty. He even vacuumed the old dirt from our walls. He stayed on the job with his employees and clearly advised us of the process. His communication was fabulous! Two days later he called back to ask how it was working for us, if we were happy with it. His workers have been with him for years. They are very polite and tidy. They laid down matting to protect my floors. Bay Cities’ quality and follow-through are above the norm, especially after the job is finished. Even the county inspector remarked on the great job they did. I first contacted them by email; they are amazingly accessible.
