Looking to turn the house of your dreams into a three-dimensional reality? Jim Groesbeck of Groesbeck Construction stands out in his ability to conceptualize and draft projects down to the minutest detail, and then execute those plans with the same care.
Jim represents the third generation of Groesbeck Construction founded in the 1920s in Minnesota. With decades of contracting experience under his belt, Jim can resolve the most challenging problems. He oversees every project as general contractor, while his wife, Trish, runs the office. “Contractors don’t have the best reputations,” Jim admits. “This is cowboy country, and there’s a lot of sloppy contractors who say one thing and do another.”
Groesbeck Construction places enormous value on trust. “Our goal is to exceed our customer’s expectations, delivering more than was hoped for,” Jim adds. He takes pride in bidding fairly, anticipating hidden costs, running a spotlessly clean job site and hiring the best subcontractors in the business.
“I aim for home construction which is correctly, aesthetically and profitably done to the total delight of the customer,” Jim says. Indeed, his former customers all agree: beyond building homes the people at Groesbeck aim to build lasting relationships with homeowners.
Tip: “If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. Do your due diligence when choosing people to work in your home. Ask to see their work, and find out what they’re doing now.” –Jim
Groesbeck Construction added an extension to our home. It was a long process because there were some complications with the city. I liked Jim from the beginning and their initial bid was comparable to others. Jim and Trish stuck by us through it all. They stayed the course and did not abandon us! Jim is totally concerned with quality control and has crazy-high standards. When things got a little difficult, he solved some minor issues by changing the crew and finished our job with a 90% new crew! It is a family business, including his son-in-law.

Groesbeck did a great job rebuilding an old, weathered pergola in my yard. It is just beautiful! Jim used materials to withstand weather and termites. He completed it in a timely fashion and at a fair price. Jim and Trish are perfection oriented. I did get quotes from two other companies and I went with Groesbeck because they were notably more professional than the others.

I love my garden; it is my hobby and my therapy. We had a beautiful waterfall, fishpond and artscape installed in our yard by another company. Jim and Trish came over on a Saturday to discuss replacing the fencing. They are a family company. He came back over with his daughter, Megan to discuss how tall, how long and what the prices would be. We had four or five meetings beforehand to fine hone the job and they were prompt to all appointments. Their communication skills are excellent. Any concerns I had were answered right away. He used high quality materials and found us a great electric gate company. They did a great job; it is just what we wanted and you can’t ask for more than that! I have recommended them to others and will have them back in the future. Working with Jim and Trish and their company was a perfect chain of events.

Working with Groesbeck Construction has been most positive and we had been through a number of projects already. They really care! Value-wise they are great, too. Their pricing is middle of the road and market competitive. Jim and Trish are such likeable people. We feel lucky to have found them and have complete faith in them. They have redone a roof, and installed new insulation and new doors and windows. We have a realistic expectation of the job costs because of the high level of communication; we are not running into any financial surprises. They are so un-LA. Like us, they grew up in a small town and they are not all about the money. They have values and an old-fashioned work ethic. Groesbeck Construction is head and shoulders above the companies we’ve had before….like night and day! I sense they have a good feeling about the job they do. A real rarity in Los Angeles.

Groesbeck Construction worked with us for six months because we bought a house and were selling a house, at the same time. We had to redo the kitchen in the old house before we sold it. New appliances, new floors, updated the cabinets, new faucets, new fireplace, the whole thing! The best thing about Groesbeck’s is Karl, the foreman. He came through for us in so many ways. He was reassuring and knowledgeable. We had some problems with a master bathtub and Karl got an expert in to re-glaze the tub. We got really comfortable with them in those six months. Their subcontractors were consistently good, too. We moved the laundry room in the new house and Jim sub’d out the electrician and plumber but he oversaw the whole job. He took control. He hung doors and replaced tiles. Jim and Karl took care of all the odds and ends. Their pricing is reasonable. When I did go with someone else on a small job, Jim would ask me how far off his bid was. At the end, when one of the subcontractors I had hired dropped the ball, Groesbeck came through for me.

What sets Groesbeck’s apart is the workmanship and quality they bring to the job. Jim did a lot of different things for me: drywall, fixture installation, woodwork, tile work. He goes above and beyond! He did everything on schedule, was always on time and did everything he said he was going to do. He has an outstanding crew. Jim is just a regular guy from Minnesota—straightforward. He doesn’t try to Big League you. He worked well around the other contractors involved with the remodel. I called a couple of other contractors in the beginning. One was a no-show and the other did not bother to call back. Groesbeck did an excellent job!

Jim came to repair a steam shower problem. He had to reroute switches and electrical lines and then added another jet. I was impressed with how well coordinated the job was, from start to finish. All of the arrangements were thought through before they started the job and there were no surprises, no changes. They had to work through our housekeeper and were respectful of her time. I thought their price was reasonable and they stuck to their budget. I am very happy with Groesbeck Construction.
