- Locate your home on a map and draw a circle with a one or two mile radius around it. Mark out the locations that you frequently visit, such as the coffee shop, the library, or the grocery store. Every time you plan to visit one of the locations that fall within the circle on your map, decide to go by bicycle instead of by car.
- Become an urban explorer. Find routes that have less traffic and slower speed limits, and have fun exploring the area where you live.
- Load it up. A couple of rear baskets on your bike can enable you to carry quite a bit home from the farmer’s market, or from a local shop. A bicycle trailer can even haul some houseplants or a couple bags of potting soil home from the nursery.
- It’s your time, enjoy it. Time spent driving can be stressful and can often feel like wasted time. Running errands by bicycle is a great way to sneak in some fun and exercise without making that added trip to the gym. Your travel time on the road can be a rewarding and refreshing experience when you ride outside of the box and get out on your bike.
