For a vet, Dr. Jeffery Marks is a real people person. “It is really important how people are treated. You are not a number here,” he says. That’s just one of the reasons Rancho Park Veterinary Clinic has been so popular for so long. Dr. Marks is a second-generation veterinarian who has been practicing for 25 years at the West Pico location. In fact, many clients who have moved out of the neighborhood continue to drive their pets across town to Rancho Park.
At Rancho Park, someone friendly and knowledgeable always answers the phone, appointments are booked so people and pets don’t have to wait long, and you never have to chase down test results. And while the clinic has a hometown atmosphere, it features all the modern equipment and standard surgical services in a spotless, bright, airy setting.
Everyone who works at RPVC, from the front desk to surgery, shares Dr. Marks’ professionalism, compassion and good cheer (and the receptionist shares her chair with a Dachshund named Winston). Dr. Marks takes joy in watching generations of puppies and kittens grow up, along with the people who love them.
Tip: California has two flea seasons: bad and worse. Flea allergies lead to dermatitis, hair loss, scratching, skin infections, tapeworms and anemia. You should use flea control every month, 12 months a year in Southern California.
I have three cats and two dogs, and they are my children. I don’t trust them with just anybody. Rancho Park is the most incredible clinic, so caring, warm and friendly. They don’t just treat my animals; they treat me, too. I recently lost my 17-year old cat and they were with me through it. It is nerve-wracking to leave any of my animals, but when I leave them at Rancho Park Vet Clinic, I feel like I’m leaving them with family. They communicate with me throughout the day, so I never feel I have lost touch. I have only had positive experiences with them, and their prices are the best I have found in the city. With some big vet clinics, I felt like my pets and I were just numbers. The office staff at Rancho Park is super-friendly and efficient, and the customer service is the best.

Rancho Park has been fantastic. My dog groomer recommended them after I had some bad experiences with another vet. I started out with taking my cat in for a basic check up. I was very impressed. They gave my sick, old dog amazing care. She lived for 15 years until we finally had to put her down because she had cancer. The clinic is so warm, caring and tactful. They took care of me, as well as the dog. They always remembered her name. They were just unbelievable! I rescued a feral cat family and a German Shepherd puppy. The dog was so sick that Dr. Marks rearranged his personal life to save this dog. She now weighs 95 pounds and is the picture of health. Today I have four cats and the dog so we go to the clinic a lot. The back office staff is wonderful, too. They always answer the phone instead of the calls going to voicemail. I can’t say enough good things about Rancho Park Vet Clinic. They are honest, clean and professional. They take care of all the details; nothing falls through the cracks with them. I moved from Rancho Park to Santa Monica and still drive to them. If I moved farther away, I would still go to them. They are just great at what they do!

I’ve been going to Rancho Park Vet Clinic for ten years now. We used to live nearby but I still go to them. It’s a bit of a schlep, but well worth the trip. The people at the clinic are like family to me. I have three dogs and two cats. Dr. Marks is amazing, warm and caring. We lost one dog with them and it was so hard for us. They helped us make the right decisions for us and for our animal, without telling us what to do. They take care of all our animals’ medical and dental needs, and surgeries. When the animals have to stay overnight, they get them back home to us soon, so our animals will heal in their own home. I shopped around a little because people told me that I could get better prices for the basic stuff, like shots. Actually all vets are pretty much the same price for basic animal care. With Rancho Park Vet I get quality care for my pet. They are very responsive to my phone calls and when I have to leave my pet, they call me as soon as they know what is wrong. When we have had an emergency, they have taken us in immediately.

In July my cat, Thunder, became very ill. I took him to the vet near my home in Studio City and got very poor care and bad bedside treatment. I’d had 15 plus years dealing with Rancho Park Vet Clinic through my employer who lives near them. I took Thunder to Rancho Park where they gave him a blood transfusion and kept him on IV’s for a week. I got to visit him whenever I wanted. The facility is very clean, and the staff is so courteous, caring and knowledgeable. I ended up having to put Thunder to sleep. Even though it was hard to do, I felt he had the very best treatment I could have gotten for him, and we did everything we could have done. The clinic sent me a card after Thunder died and the entire office signed it, saying nice things about my cat. That meant so much to me. One of my employer’s standard poodles was brought back to life by Dr. Marks and lived a few more happy, healthy years. Their prices are comparable to the other vet I had been to, but the care is much better. Rancho Park Clinic doesn’t push services. They will advise but they won’t up-sell. Studio City is a ways away, but Rancho Park Vet Clinic is worth the drive. All in all, I’ve had only positive experiences with them. I don’t feel like my pets are just numbers and dollar signs in the waiting room. I’ve never had a long wait when we have an appointment. My animals and I are treated with A-1 care and respect, which is truly rare.

My two puppies were my first pets so Rancho Park is my first vet clinic. I especially like the convenience of their early hours, and my puppies love to go there. When I call or come in, the office staff can always put their hands on my file immediately. They also offer other services like grooming. It feels like one-stop-shopping to me. No running around from the groomer to the vet. As far as the charges, I always know upfront what to expect. There are no unnecessary or unexplained costs. I never feel rushed when I take my pet in. They take the time to get to know the pet, like the pediatrician does with a child. The vet calms the pet and bonds with the pet before the exam, and the vet or the office staff explains everything thoroughly. They also notify me by email and by postcard when one of the puppies needs some shots or a check-up.

I’ve been with Rancho Park since 1991. I lived on West Adams at the time and Dr. Marks was nearby. Six years ago I moved near Beverly Center and was closer to the Pico Office in Rancho Park. Dr. Marks works in both offices. Dr. Marks helped us euthanize our older dog, and he was so warm and compassionate. It was an amazing experience. It’s never easy to lose a pet but Dr. Marks really helped get us through it. I also like that Dr. Marks is a conservative caregiver. He does not recommend anything unless it is absolutely necessary. Our newer dog, Jake has a degenerative disc problem. Dr. Marks does not do that kind of surgery but he hooked us up with the best veterinary surgeon in LA. He spent a lot of time getting Jake taken care of. Jake had an MRI and I stopped by to show Dr. Marks on my way to the surgeon. Jeff Marks feels like a friend as much as my vet. This office staff is friendly and efficient. They are warm and kind to both me and to my dog. I live in Eagle Rock now, but Rancho Park Vet Clinic is worth the drive. The measure of their compassion sets them apart. I’m a big fan!

I was impressed with the amazing bedside manner exhibited at Rancho Park. I have had three dogs in the last twenty years, and they are my family. My animals get excellent care and follow-up at Rancho Park. Dr. Marks is a good listener and takes time to explain what he is doing. When I call the office, a live person always answers the phone during office hours. Very efficient! I’ve walked away from a number of vets in the last twenty years because I felt like me and my pets were just numbers. We never saw the same vet twice, and they rushed us in and out in ten minutes. Rancho Park Vet Clinic almost feels like a mom-and-pop organization. I never feel rushed or in a hurry. Dr. Marks is very involved in the care of my pets. He will even call up to inquire how my pet is doing, and he cares about how I am doing, too. I would adopt Dr. Marks if I could!

Ten or twelve years ago my cat went missing after she was hit by a car. She was a pregnant feral rescue; she escaped from the house and we were looking for her. A neighbor found her on their doorstep around the block and took her to Rancho Park. Dr. Marks gave her a blood transfusion and saved her life. I still have her and one of her kittens; she is about fourteen years old now. I really like Dr. Marks. Dr. Laura and Dr. Nick are great, too. Dr. Marks is a very straightforward, no-nonsense guy. He doesn’t try to sell extras. I have two dogs and two cats so I am there a lot. Rancho Park is not the cheapest clinic and not the most expensive. They are very convenient to where I live and caring and gentle with me and to my animals. The office staff is friendly, responsive and accommodating. They keep in communication with me with postcard reminders. If I need to talk to Dr. Marks he either answers or calls me back promptly.
